Two of the most obvious purposes of this show is to one, entertain and two, to make money, but there may be more to The Simpsons show on FOX than we may think. The Simpsons also has another purpose, exposing old and forgotten stereotypes. We do not see the normal stereotypes such as the smart asian, the dumb blonde, etcetera, there are many more stereotypes that can be found if you look a little bit closer, such as that everyone from India praises a crazy God that no one can remember the name of, or that all old people are very slow and tell very crazy stories.
This show also helps us laugh at ourselves and at things that make us feel bad such as racism, or our jobs, or school. Command viewers to be active in their consumption. The ability that the simpsons have to point out things that we might not otherwise see ourselves, our beliefs, and our institutions is surely a mark of quality. Made to forget they are watching a cartoon by portraying a fuller range of human emotion than that presented in most live-action sit-coms emphasizing individual responses to specific character traits, able to convey politics through the Simpsons' normal activities. |
The audience that I think The Simpsons are most likely going for is from twelve to fifty year olds, because first of all they make a lot of jokes that are for younger viewers, and some cussing which for us, at this age is pretty funny. Also, the show makes many jokes that I don't get but my father gets and laughs at.
The Simpsons has humor for everyone because it makes us laugh at the things that usually make us mad, such as racism, or work, or our boss. You can also relate people in life to the people in the show because there are many people that are common around cities in the show. |
